PBSO Welcomes United States Army Sgt. Richard “Tiny” Sowell

PBSO Welcomes United States Army Sgt. Richard “Tiny” Sowell, killed in action on Saipan on July 7, 1944. Lewis Sowell, Jr., Sgt. Sowell’s nephew, was contacted by the military in 2015 and advised that they had possibly found some remains and asked for a sample of his DNA, which he provided. On June 30, 2017 the match was confirmed.

Today, Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office remembers with pride their fallen hero, George C. Douglass. PBSO Deputy Sheriff George C. Douglass was appointed as Deputy Sheriff only five weeks before his death. He was reluctant to take the position and did so only when requested by unanimous vote of the council.
