If you are a victim of a hate crime, or a witness to a hate crime, please report the incident to the police, either during, or immediately after it occurs by calling 911.

Reporting a Crime

When you call 911, the 911 operator needs quick, clear, and concise information.

  • Location
  • Injuries
  • Incident Details – words to indicate a hate crime.
  • Any Weapons Involved – description of weapon
  • Suspect – description of suspect, race, sex, height, weight, clothing, etc.
  • Anything unusual – accent, scars, tattoos, piercings, etc.
  • Suspect Vehicle – tag, color, make, model, dents, bumper stickers, etc.
  • Direction of Travel

SOMEONE CALLING YOU A NAME IS NOT A CRIME – IT IS FREE SPEECH.  WHEN SOMEONE CALLS YOU A NAME AND THEN THREATENS YOU OR PHYSICALLY HARMS YOU, IT THEN BECOMES A CRIME.
