Update – Arrest – Attempted Sudden Snatching of a Victim’s Purse

Through collaborative efforts, the suspect was identified as Santo Omar Martinez Varela (H/M, 12/7/1989).  Residential search warrants were authored and evidence was found linking Martinez Varela to the robbery (Sudden Snatching). Martinez Varela was re-arrested (in custody booking) for Robbery with a Firearm and Kidnapping during the Commission of a Felony.

The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office is seeking the public’s help in identifying a suspect involved in an attempted purse snatching.

On December 26, 2024, at approximately 10:45 p.m., the victim was walking near Dudley Drive E and Cresthaven Blvd in unincorporated West Palm Beach when the incident occurred. The suspect, sitting in an older-model sedan, waited for the victim to approach. He then exited the vehicle, brandished a firearm, and attempted to grab her purse. Following a brief struggle, the suspect retreated to his car and fled the scene.

The suspect is described as a Hispanic male, approximately 5 feet tall, with a medium build and curly dark hair.
