Scam Alert for PBC Seniors
Dear Palm Beach County Senior Citizens,
If your phone rings and someone tells you: “Your grandchild is in trouble and needs money!” It’s a SCAM.
This happens more often than you think. Yesterday, we arrested: Jason Moreland on a warrant for Grand Theft. Last year in June, the suspect contacted the victim and claimed one of his grandchildren was in trouble and needed money. The victim, falling prey, transferred a large sum of money to an account in West Palm Beach.
Further investigation found that the twenty-year old, Jason Moreland, owned, received and withdrew the funds from this account. PBSO detectives interviewed Moreland and he admitted to withdrawing the funds.
