PBSO is Reaccredited with “Excelsior” Status by Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation, Inc.

In July of this year (2024), four experienced law enforcement professionals trained as assessors were selected by the Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation, Inc. to conduct an assessment of the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office. This assessment looked at our policies, procedures, practices, and facilities to determine compliance with 235 Commission standards. The assessors spent three days reviewing documents, interviewing personnel, and observing and inspecting vehicles and equipment while making site visits to many of our locations around the county. At the conclusion of the assessment, a comprehensive report was submitted by the team leader to the Commission detailing their activities and our compliance with the law enforcement standards.

This assessment looked at our policies, procedures, practices, and facilities to determine compliance with 235 Commission standards. At the conclusion of the assessment, a comprehensive report was submitted by the team leader to the Commission detailing their activities and our compliance with the law enforcement standards.

The report showed our compliance to be flawless and concludes with a unanimous recommendation from the assessment team for our reaccreditation with Excelsior status. This could not have been achieved without the commitment and support of Sheriff Ric Bradshaw and every member of the Sheriff’s Office. These dedicated law enforcement professionals, both sworn and civilian, work every day to assure the highest level of service and security to the citizens of Palm Beach County.

On October 3rd, the Commission officially voted in favor of reaccreditation. The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office has been accredited every three years since our initial accreditation award in 2000. This latest is our ninth consecutive and fourth Excelsior law enforcement accreditation award. Excelsior Recognition is achieved by agencies who have completed five successful accreditations covering a span of 15 years, and have shown a “Commitment to Accreditation” and to “Excellence in Accreditation.” The “Excelsior Recognition program recognizes some of the finest criminal justice agencies in the State of Florida.” For more information, please visit the Commission website at flaccreditation.org.
