PBSO, Brightline, Florida East Coast Rail, Trial Rail and Amtrak Participate in Rail Safety Week
Update
Results of Rail Safety Week operations (PBSO, Brightline, Florida East Coast Rail, Trial Rail and Amtrak) from Monday, September 23, 2024, to Sunday, September 29, 2024 is as follows:
- Fifty-five (55) citizen contacts related to railway incidents
- Eleven (11) individuals were arrested for trespassing on the tracks
In addition, deputies responded to a 911 hang-up call on September 28, 2024, regarding a mentally disturbed person expressing intent to commit suicide by train. Deputies successfully made contact with the individual and took the person to a receiving facility for a mental health evaluation under the Baker Act law.

The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, District 14 – City of Lake Worth Beach, will be collaborating with Brightline, Florida East Coast Rail (FEC), Tri-Rail, and Amtrak to conduct Rail Safety Week operations from Monday, September 23, 2024, to Sunday, September 29, 2024. This initiative targets pedestrian trespassing on railroad tracks and both vehicle and pedestrian infractions at grade crossing intersections.
Our primary goal is to educate the public through the distribution of flyers and pamphlets. Please note that repeat offenders may face arrest during this week-long operation. Residents of Lake Worth Beach can expect increased law enforcement presence near all railroad tracks within the city.
